Where to Stick the Hook for your Foundation Chain.

OK, this is a bugbear for many - and in the end, it DOESN'T MATTER where you put it, as long as you're consistent, but this is my favourite, 'cos it's so neat.
It's also a good reason to learn the chainless foundation, where you do the first row of stitches instead of a chain THEN sts - so you don't need to chain at all.

Chain - a series of loops, yes?

Flip it over, and you have a series of bumps.

These bumps here, like a Lochness Monster.
The hook goes from front to back, the way my finger is pointing.
Like this - this is where the hook will go.

Like so.  There are two more after that, to the right of the hook.

Here is is in 'small'.  The loops...

The bumps...

Here we go - and three more after, to the right of the hook.
That's it.  I don't have the 'flip' facility on my compu, so sorry it's all left-handed, but I hope you get the idea.
