Boring, Blokey Buttons?

I bought a lightweight jacket for the summer - thought about dyeing it... but thought I'd go a bit more conservative (no political statement intended).
The buttons are 'orrible, IMHO (in my humble opinion)...

OK, I've saved 'em for something else, and they'll go in my button box for now - but can you see what I did with the thread?  What a novel way to sew buttons on!  I can't remember where I saw it, but it's brill.
So, on with the tale of the new buttons.
I bought these from the indoor market at Ashton-under-Lyne.

I love 'em.
